Company insurance news - Winter motor claims could bug businesses

21 December 2009

Company insurance customers have been advised to take precautions against winter driving conditions in case their fleets become involved in weather-related road accidents.

The AA, which provides company insurance to a many UK business fleets, has said that snowfall has already been a factor in the number of motor claims it has received this winter, precipitating a 31% increase in claims.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance commented on Friday 21st December, "Our Cardiff office received its first snow-related insurance claim at 7.22am this morning. Since then, there have been 60 specific claims for collisions in the snow and ice and a dozen customers have ended up in ditches."

While company insurance holders have been advised to make sure they educate their younger driving staff of the dangers of winter hazards. An insurance spokesperson says that older drivers' "ability to adapt their driving to the conditions means that they are even less likely than at other times of the year to have an accident than younger more carefree motorists."
